The Ben Dip Story
It has been said many times that America’s greatest inventions and recipes have actually been made by mistake when the creator was trying for something completely different.
Well the same goes with how “The Ben Dip” came to be here at Benedetto’s Ristorante Italiano. There is no other Italian Restaurant in Tampa that serves a seafood delicacy like this! It is by far one of the most requested appetizers. The Benedetto Dip actually came from a time that Chef Ben was making a stuffing for a fish years ago and the mixture came out too thin and loose.
Instead of throwing the mixture away or adding breadcrumbs to stiffen the sauce ( this would take away from the crab and lobster ), Chef Ben turned it into a dip with cheese, spinach, and fresh artichoke hearts that is served steamy hot with baguettes and crostinis.
